2010.036 Birds, and other signs

I know it seems early to be thinking of spring, but I’m definitely seeing and hearing signs of winter aging. The past few mornings I’ve been greeted with birdsongs when I have left the house. And several nights have been filled with the rich conversation of barred owls. We hear them all year ’round, but they seem to be chatting each other up quite a bit more, lately.

It’s like an orchestra tuning up… a little here, and there… brief moments of cacophony, with just-discernible snippets of something larger, coming through. Add to those aural signs few mornings with breeze carrying earthy smells. I’m sure it will be at least have another 4 weeks before any of the more durable signs are obvious… twigs and branches greening (and reddening), buds swelling, and noticeably warmer sunlight. But that’s okay, I’m busy with indoor life right now. Spring can wait, but I’ll be watching for signs, nonetheless.
