I can understand a cabinet maker who isn’t a great speller, though I would expect attention to detail from a fine one. It’s the sign-maker I have an issue with. Surely, spelling is near the top of the desired skills for anyone who is in the business of putting things in print. Mistakes happen, of course, but this sign has been up for a few days now. My co-worker Heather and I considered using up a bottle of white out to cover an ‘n’. But the question is, which ‘n’? I think we decided on the first one, because ‘ope ning’ is just more interesting...

Today’s morning came extra early. It was surgery day for my husband, who has been living with the pain of carpel tunnel syndrome. No surgery is fun, but this one at least has a high success rate and low risk, and soon he should be pain free! On the right side, anyway. Left side to follow.
I hadn’t had breakfast, and was facing an extremely busy day at work, so I stopped for breakfast. ~ Sigh ~ Nutella. What wonderful stuff! I have a rule for myself that I’m not allowed to buy Nutella at the market, I can only have it when I find it on a menu. It’s safer that way....

The bad news is, I’m not feeling any better yet. The good news is, I have nice soft fluffy tissues, and they make for interesting photos!

Blah. Sick with enough of a cold that I wish I had a couple of boxes of nice soft tissues around. It’s been too blustery and raw outside to run down to the store, so I’ve been holed up with blankets and hot beverages, catching up on processing images and posts. I’m sure I’ll be right as rain, soon enough!

My husband has been at the Hartford Boat Show this weekend with his friend Scott, helping out at the booth of Scott’s company S&S Marine. So, recently a box was sitting on the kitchen counter. With no shipping label evident, and not expecting any packages, I just had to take a look inside. Never would have guessed that it would be a box FULL of bright red foam anchors and safety whistles! They were on their way up to the show to be given away to people who visited their booth. I took the box outside in search of better (natural) lighting and realized it was snowing lightly. If you...

So, my daughter was looking at photos from yesterday’s snowy meadow. She was instrumental in my final choice of image for yesterday’s post. She had another that was a close second, so today’s post is her almost-favourite. Be sure to click the magnifying glass in the center of the post thumbnail, as this is a vertically oriented image and you’re just seeing part of it in the thumbnail. The image is cropped down quite a bit from a larger one, so I am not sure how well it will hold up to viewing on a large screen. But it is interesting, nonetheless!

This morning it smelled like spring; earthy, dewey, and fairly mild. But flakes began to fall and by noon when I was bringing my daughter home from school, I found the meadow wearing this dusting of snow. When I was heading in to work, out two hours later, the sun was shining, the world was dripping melted snow, and we were back to spring. At 8:30pm I walked out of the office to be greeted by an arctic blast. 20 degrees, wind howling, parking lot icy, car reluctant. Phew! As they say, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait a bit.”

I have the honour of playing with a most creative and energetic group of musicians in a fife and drum corps called Connecticut Valley Field Music. In the language of fife and drum, we are considered a civil war corps (as opposed to revolutionary war, for example). I think it’s safe to say that we seek to play music that was being played then, or is inspired by the music of that period of time. By no means are we a reenactor unit, but we do want to evoke the feel of the time period, and of course we want to look sharp.
Our uniforms were in need of updating, so we went back to the...
